Leaders, Leadership & Leading

The recognition of the need for good and effective business leaders has never been higher.
But what makes a good leader? And how do you learn to lead? Everybody wants to lead, but how do you learn to lead? Can you learn to lead? And what about followers? Every real leader needs followers - how do you know that your people are genuinely following your lead - as opposed to just turning up every day? In times of change, good leadership is vital. Will they believe in you and the path you’re setting out?

Defining Moments..?

Noticing who is a real leader tends to occur in moments of crisis or pressure. The ability that someone has to be able to step forward and provide the right call for unity, to be able set and explain a direction and way forward that people know and feel is right and to be able to both direct and lead with full support and permission is unmistakable when it occurs. This is how we usually think about leadership. And yet, being a real leader is much more than this..

The call for more and better leadership in business has never been higher. What is it that people want? What is it that they feel is missing, lacking and yet so necessary?

Everyday Leadership..?

Based on work with client staff over the years, the one defining message we’ve received is their desire for leadership. Not the once in a lifetime crisis sort of leadership, but the everyday leadership that provides them with a sense that there is a clear direction, a plan, a way forward that is understood and being followed. A sense that their executives are looking after the business, the common good; that the right issues are being tackled, the right decisions made, for the right reasons - that both managing and leading are happening when they should.

Do You Measure up?

You’ve attended the course(s), you’ve read the books, you’ve heard the speeches - now what?
Do you have the insights, the skills, the understanding of people to be seen as a natural leader?
Do you know what to say and do, what behaviours, what actions are required? We do.

Developing the abilities required to be a real leader - both in the everyday sense and when those defining moments occurs - is a journey. It’s a road of some challenges, experiential insights of the self and others, wake-up calls and defining moments of personal realisation, appreciation and quiet honesty.

It’s also about learning what works, what doesn’t, how and when to do it, how to deal with the politics and the cynicism - and how to be open and honest without appearing naive. It’s also not for everyone.
